It is a megaproject that promises to raise the offer of the Las Terrenas municipality to the highest standards of world tourism. But don’t worry those who think that, because it is so ambitious, one of the favorite towns for the Dominicans to vacation will lose the romantic and bohemian air that characterizes it.
The main shareholder of the Blu Terrenas project, Richard Lafond, assures that they intend to achieve a project that not only safeguards the environment, but also promotes the social and economic growth of the inhabitants of Las Terrenas, in the north of the province of Samaná.
“Our main focus is to develop a construction integrated into nature. More than a responsibility, it is a commitment that we have with the community”, affirms Lafond.
Lafond is a businessman with more than 25 years in the Dominican Republic who soon fell in love with the benefits of the island and the warmth of the Dominicans.
Among the many projects that he executes throughout the Dominican geography, this one stands out as the most ambitious.
“Las Terrenas is one of the most beautiful places in the Dominican Republic. The nature is unique, its beautiful beaches and its beautiful people (from the inside out) make anyone fall in love with the area”, says the American.
of the megaproject
Located in front of the Portillo beach, about 7 kilometers from the town center, and with an extension of three million square meters from the beach to the Las Terrenas cliff, the project will connect the 27 de Febrero avenue with the Boulevard del Atlántico , with public streets donated to the community.
Lafond explains that Blu Terrenas will have a shopping center open to the public of 85,000 square meters with international and local stores, restaurants and an amphitheater over the water with capacity for 2,500 people.
Among the cultural amenities, it will have the first museum of the evolutionary history of the Dominican Republic, 3D movie theaters and an artisan market to offer an exhibition platform for local artists.
It will have a fire station for the entire community, a sports center with different types of courts and an academy that will prepare young people from Las Terrenas for free in tourism services.
Blu Terrenas will provide the first congress center in the area. In addition, it will include a hotel with 480 5-star category L rooms, villas and townhouses located on the beachfront, and 1, 2, and 3-bedroom apartments that will border a lazy river (pool) certified as the longest in the world.
eco friendly
All the roofs of the parking lots and roofs of the buildings will be prepared with solar panels to obtain electricity from common areas and public streets. Inside, a natural park of almost one million meters will preserve the micro habitat.
The construction area will be low with respect to density to demonstrate the “eco friendly” aspect of the project: only 8% of the land has constructions, with a total density much lower than the approved laws. Two independent treatment plants are planned for the entire project and two water tanks to supply it.
